Mammy often says,
“God gives everyone
a message to do in life
and nobody dies
until they have done
that message”.
I find myself thinking this morning
about John Hume
who died this week.
John was a proud Derry man
who championed civil rights,
founded the Credit Union,
campaigned tirelessly for peace
and is often called
the “architect of the Good Friday agreement”.
A man of deep faith
and strong principles,
he frequented St Eugene’s cathedral
where he would sit in the back seat
spending time, humbly,
before God.
God gave John Hume
a very important message to do –
to help bring peace
to the North of Ireland
and, having completed it,
it was John’s time to go.
May he rest in peace.
