It’s been hard work
clearing our driveway.
So many weeds
to scrape out
and dig out!
But we’ve tried our best
to rescue plants
where possible.
And so,
in a corner of our patio,
is a wee garden “nursery”
where tiny forget-me-nots,
lavendars and honeysuckles
stand in tiny pots
in the hope that,
come Spring,
we’ll be able to plant them out!
Despite our best efforts
not all of our wee rescuees
have survived.
As a result
a honeysuckle pot
now stands empty –
with only a stick,
a make-shift stake,
remaining.
Pity!
I make a mental note
to clear out the pot.
Several weeks later
when I finally get round
to doing it
I stop in surprise
and stare at the stick.
There, at the top,
is a bud –
the stick is sprouting!
Isn’t that amazing –
we ended up
rescuing the stick!
Isn’t life sometimes
wonderfully unpredictable?
(Thank you, Lord!)
